The Premier Soccer League have confirmed that the Kaizer Chiefs vs Cape Town City fixture has been brought forward following the Soweto giants’ elimination from the Caf Confederation Cup.

The Amakhosi went down 5-2 on aggregate against Zesco United last weekend in what was the final two-legged qualifier before the group stages.

The league had initially made provisions for Chiefs in anticipation of their qualification for the group stages to allow them to prepare for fixtures in both competitions within a reasonable time frame.

Ernst Middendorp’s team were originally set to host Cape Town City at the FNB Stadium on the 2nd of February but following their exit from the continents second-tier knockout competition the game has been brought forward to the 30th of January.

The fixture change will see another game added into what has been a very busy period for the Soweto giants because by the end of the City game they would have competed in seven fixtures within a space of just 25 days.

Chiefs started the year with a game against Mamelodi Sundowns on January 5 and have since played Bidvest Wits, Zesco United, AmaZulu and Zesco in the return leg. They will also face Tornado FC in the Nedbank Cup before taking aim at the Citizens.

Middendorp highlighted his side’s busy schedule after their exit from the Caf Confed Cup and will likely not be too pleased that his side will have less time to prepare for the clash against Benni McCarthy’s City who are on a good run of form.
