SuperSport United are reportedly considering selling their top-flight status ahead of the 2022-23 DStv Premiership campaign.
The MultiChoice group, alongside Patrice Motsepe and his foundations, are basically funding South African professional football at the moment.
The top flight is sponsored by MultiChoice and called the DStv Premiership, as well as the MultiChoice Diski Challenge, reserve league and youth leagues.
Motsepe, on the other hand, sponsors the second and third divisions of South African football, while also owning Mamelodi Sundowns.
However, as companies still look to balance their books coming out of the Covid-19 pandemic, it’s being reported that the powers-that-be may be looking to sell off Matsatsantsa’s PSL status.
According to Tiyani Mabasa’s Unplayable, sources have suggested that SuperSport United will be sold to an unnamed buyer before the start of the 2022-23 season.
This is the third season in a row with rumours that the club are looking to sell and – with the parent company already investing so much in SA football – this time around it could be more than rumours.
