Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign Dutch fullback Ian Maatsen after activating his release clause.
Maatsen had a successful loan spell at Borussia Dortmund last season, helping the Bundesliga side to their first UEFA Champions League final since Jurgen Klopp’s reign in 2012.
Aston Villa have beaten competition from multiple clubs in Europe including Dortmund by activating the £37.5m release clause in the fullbacks Chelsea contract.
At just 22 years-old, Ian Maatsen promises to be an exciting addition to Unai Emery’s squad for their debut campaign in the UEFA Champions League.

Maatsen will sign a six-year deal at Villa, until June 2030.
Chelsea will receive £37.5m fee.
