Now that the 2023/24 football season has come to an end, with every domestic league champion crowned along with promoted and relegated clubs being confirmed, Sportingpedia have examined the numbers and costs behind the top scorers in European football.
Sportingpedia break down the earnings per goal of the players that finished in the golden boot rankings. Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane scored 36 goals in his debut season in the Bundesliga, taking top spot from Erling Haaland. The best value player was Stuttgart’s Guinean striker Serhou Guirassy, who impressed in the Bundesliga this season.
The outrageous numbers behind Guirassy’s campaign and the valuable role he played for Stuttgart is shown by comparing his earnings per goal in comparison to Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe. Guirassy’s 28 goals come at a value 34 times less than Mbappe who is ranked as the worst value for goals scored in the top 10. Mbappe earns €2.67 million per goal scored while Guirassy earns €77,163 per goal.
Only two players in the top 10 earned less than €100k per goal, this was Stuttgart’s Guirassy and Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres. Each of Kylian Mbappe’s goals this season have cost more than what Serhou Guirassy, Viktor Gyokeres and Girona’s Artem Dovbyk earn per year.
