Getting relegated from the Premier League is arguably the biggest influence on a club’s long term future, more than winning any trophy or signing any player.
The huge decrease in revenue, sponsorship and match-day income have the potential to sink clubs, no matter their size, into the lower leagues for decades, with examples like Premier League winners Blackburn Rovers or hugely supported clubs such as Leeds United, Sunderland and Portsmouth.
With the futures of Leicester City, Leeds United and Southampton now condemned to the Championship, there will need to be huge changes made behind the scenes if these clubs wish to bounce back next season.
