Erling Haaland has set a new UEFA Champions League record after scoring 49 goals in just 48 Champions League matches.
The Norwegian scored a brace for Manchester City during their Champions League play-off encounter against Real Madrid, despite losing 3-2 to the Spanish outfit in the late stages of the game on Tuesday evening.
Although his two goals weren’t enough to help his side defeat Madrid despite, they sure were enough for him to surpass Manchester City legends’ Sergio Kun Aguero’s record of 47 overall Champions League goals for City.
Haaland managed to surpass that tally in just three seasons with City and only 48 appearances. What makes the talismans’ record outstanding isn’t the fact he scored the highest number goals in less games but the nailing that amount of goals faster than any other player.
In comparison, Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe has a total 51 Champions League goals in 81 appearances, while Haaland on the other hand reached 49 in 48 appearances.
His goal scoring efficiency has marked a new benchmark in the history of the Champions League, also highlighting his ascend to the top of the list of elite players in the competition.
