Gasperini: ‘Lookman is the worst penalty taker I’ve seen’

Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini brutally spoke out about Ademola Lookman’s penalty miss as they crashed out of the Champions League against Club Brugge on Tuesday night.

Lookman managed to score within seconds of being introduced from the bench following his return from injury. In the 60th minute, the Nigerian striker was handed an opportunity to net another goal from the spot but couldn’t convert as Atalanta got thrashed 3-1 by the Belgian side to end their European dreams.

Following the loss, during a post match interview, Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini didn’t hold back in his critique of his side performance, calling out Ademola Lookman to be one of the worst penalty takers he has ever seen.

“He wanted to take the penalty after scoring a goal, he took the ball despite (Mateo) Retegui and (Charles) De Keteleare available to take it… I didn’t like what Lookman did,” Gasperini said.

He added, “Lookman wasn’t supposed to take the penalty. Even in training he doesn’t have a good rate of scoring from the spot.”
