With blistering pace, clinical finishing and elite versatility, Omar Marmoush will be Manchester City’s next great attacking superstar, writes DYLAN JOHNSON.
Omar Marmoush joined Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt for roughly €75m after emerging as one of the Bundesliga’s best players over the past 18 months. His rise to prominence came through a series of standout performances, where he showcased his technical ability, pace, and finishing skills, making him one of the most sought-after forwards in Europe.
While some questioned the fee at the time, Marmoush is already proving he will be a bargain in the long run. His arrival marks a crucial turning point for Manchester City, as they navigate a period of transition following key departures, injuries and an aging squad. Marmoush will be central to their rebuild and their hopes of regaining dominance in both English and European football.
Marmoush will be the spine of City’s rejuvenated attack, forming a lethal partnership with Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku, and Savinho. His versatility allows him to operate anywhere across the frontline. On the wing, as a false nine, or leading the line as a striker. This adaptability makes him an invaluable asset in Pep Guardiola’s system, particularly as City have struggled with fluidity in attack this season.
While Haaland is a traditional centre-forward who thrives in central areas, and both Doku and Savinho offer wide threats but struggle in more advanced central positions, Marmoush bridges the gap. His movement, technical ability, and intelligence make him a perfect fit for City’s evolving frontline.
The numbers speak for themselves. In just 17 Bundesliga appearances this season, Marmoush scored 15 goals and registered 10 assists. Across all competitions including his time at City, he has contributed to 48 goals, highlighting his ability to not only score but also create.
This kind of output is exactly what City have been missing. With Phil Foden more effective in deeper positions and Kevin De Bruyne struggling to reach his previous levels, Marmoush provides the missing link between midfield and attack, ensuring that City maintain their attacking threat in all areas of the pitch.
City’s squad has seen a steep decline in physicality, athleticism, and dynamism this season. The drop in form of key players such as Ilkay Gündogan, Bernardo Silva, Mateo Kovačić, and Jack Grealish have left Guardiola with limited options.
Kyle Walker’s exit after a poor start to the season and an ongoing injury crisis have only exacerbated the situation. Marmoush is now set to be the foundation of City’s rebuild. His combination of pace, technical ability, and creativity is exactly what City need to regain their dominance in England and Europe.
This season, Erling Haaland has struggled to find the same level of service that propelled him to a record-breaking 36-goal Premier League season, with his shot conversion rate and total touches per game dropping significantly compared to his debut campaign. His teammates have been unable to provide the same quality of chances, resulting in Haaland registering some of his lowest touches and shot attempts per game since arriving in England.
Marmoush is the ideal player to bridge that gap, offering Haaland the kind of service that Kevin De Bruyne once thrived at delivering. His ability to operate in tight spaces, beat defenders, and deliver pinpoint passes will ensure that City’s attack remains as potent as ever.
Marmoush’s skill set makes him one of the most exciting players in the Premier League, drawing comparisons to versatile forwards like Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min due to his ability to both score and create in high-pressure situations. His first touch, dribbling, and ability to create goal-scoring opportunities in tight areas make him a nightmare for defenders.
He is blisteringly quick, capable of beating defensive lines with his movement, and possesses an aggressive and fearless approach that makes him a constant danger in the final third. Whether deployed on the wings, as a lone striker, or in a deeper attacking role, he provides a unique blend of goal-scoring and playmaking ability.
There is no doubt that Marmoush is destined to be one of the Premier League’s top players, with the potential to shape City’s attack for years to come as he continues to develop under Guardiola’s guidance. He is not just a signing for the present but the foundation for City’s future. With his skill, versatility, and immense potential, he is set to be the driving force behind Manchester City’s next era of success.
