Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela revealed further concern with his side’s defence, following their Macufe Cup triumph against Bloemfontein Celtic on Sunday afternoon.
Chiefs retained the Sparta Macufe Cup after seeing off Celtic in a six-goal thriller at the Free State Stadium, but Komphela admitted that there are still concerns regarding his side’s tendency to concede unnecessary goals.
“That’s one thing we need to be working on, we can’t be conceding like that,” he said in post-match comments.
“Even when we played Baroka, we conceded on a set play. We have to get that right.
“Even if we made six changes, does it affect the rhythm, do you keep the shape.
“I’m happy for guys like (Nkosingiphile) Ngcobo, the crowd helped him today, he’s no longer the young kid we knew yesterday, but he’s a bit wiser today,” he added.
Chiefs’ sixth Macufe Cup triumph was marred by an injury to defender Kgotso Moleko, who was then substituted.
“We have to go back and see how far it takes with Moleko, I don’t know what is happening. We seem to be losing them by the day,” he concluded.
The Soweto giants’ next assignment sees them face Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday 17 October at the Loftus Versveld Stadium, with kick-off set for 19:30.
