Bafana Bafana’s 3-1 victory against Burkina Faso in their World Cup qualifier earlier this month has seen them jump six spots in the most recent Fifa world rankings, which were released on Monday.
South Africa occupy 74th spot in the world rankings and 16th on the African continent. However, they have quite a distance to go before reaching Safa’s goal of having the national team occupy a top-20 spot in world football and a top-three berth in Africa.
Stuart Baxter’s men have the opportunity to further increase their ranking when they face Senegal in two must-win World Cup qualifiers next month.
In other movements on the Fifa ranking list, Peru climbed into the top ten of the world rankings for the first time, due to their decisive Fifa World Cup qualifiers, while France moved up one spot to seventh, and England moved three spots to 12th.
