Kaizer Chiefs defender Philani Zulu admits that he is willing to relinquish his starting berth for the benefit of the team.
The 25-year-old has made a great start to life with the Naturena based-outfit since joining from Maritzburg United and has made 11 starts since coming on as a substitute to replace Tsepo Masilela who suffered an injury in the 2-1 loss against SuperSport
Zulu’s performances have seen him cement in place in the Chiefs line-up, putting Sibusiso Khumalo on the bench, but the defender says he is just pleased to help contribute to the teams success.
“I wouldn’t say [I’m close to cementing my position in the team] because anything can happen from here onwards,” he told kickoff.
“It’s just important that whenever I get the chance I make the best of it and make sure, not that I keep my place but, I give my best in helping the team.
“If ever someone else comes in and they do a better job then I’ll support them because, for me, it’s all about winning as a team.
“It’s not for me to say I want to maintain my position, because I might maintain it and not be doing well, so it’s just for me to give my best and compliment the players [around me],” he concluded.
Chiefs face AmaZulu in an Absa Premiership encounter on Wednesday with kickoff set for 19:30.
