Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt has confirmed the signing of midfielder Cole Alexander, citing him as a long-term prospect for the club.
Hunt ended speculation surronding the former Bafana Bafana midfielder, when he revealed that the Ajax Cape Town youth product had penned a contract with the Sturrock based-outfit.
“Yeah, Cole Alexander’s here. We’ve signed him,” he told kickoff.
“A few [central midfielders] are going, and a few have gone already, so we have to look at the long-term as well,” he added.
The Clever Boys recently parted ways with former Everton man Steven Pienaar and Xola Mlambop, who completed a move to Orlando Pirates.
Alexander was released by SuperSport United last month following an 18-month stint with the club, which was plagued with injuries.
The 28-year-old faces stiff competition in Hunt’s starting XI and will have to compete with the likes of Thabang Monare, Granwald Scott, Edwin Gyimah, Ben Motshwari and Phumlani Ntshangase for a place in the team.
Wits’ next assignment sees them face Golden Arrows in a league encounter on Saturday afternoon, with kick-off set for 15h30.
