Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says he won’t point fingers after his side suffered a 3-1 defeat to arch-rivals Orlando Pirates on Saturday.
The Glamour Boys dropped down to fifth place in the Absa Premiership standings with 35 points and are now eight points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
Komphela says he won’t play the blame game after his side’s 10-match unbeaten streak came to an end in their Soweto Derby at the FNB Stadium over the weekend.
“We regret this loss,” Komphela told his club’s official website, “but we don’t point fingers, because you win and you lose together.”
“Our unbeaten run came to an end at the wrong time.
“We had a good first half though and Pirates’ first goal was unnecessary. Then we equalised from a set-piece, which we know we can do well. Thereafter we dominated and could have killed the game.”
The Amakhosi mentor believes his side could’ve easily played to a 3-3 if they converted their chances in the final third.
“That was the worst start one can imagine,” he added, “conceding a goal so early in the second half. Thereafter, our pressing was not as tight as it should have been, leaving space behind us.”
“But we continued to look for opportunities to score. The game could have finished 3-3 or even the other way around. We played well, but couldn’t win the match.”
Kaizer Chiefs will be hoping to bounce back when they take on Stellenbosch in the Nedbank Cup on 10 March, with kick-off set for 20:15.
