The eleventh edition of the Nedbank Cup final will be hosted in Cape Town at the Cape Town Stadium as confirmed at the Nedbank Cup quarter-final draw in Cape Town on Thursday.
The draw which pitted Benni McCarthy’s Cape Town City against Absa Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns also produced another shock when PSL COO Professor Ronnie Schloss revealed that the Nedbank Cup final will be held in Cape Town for a first team ever.
“The final will be played on 19 May at Cape Town Stadium,” Schloss told those in attendance at the draw.
PSL acting chief executive, Mato Madlala confirmed the reason behind the PSL’s decision to bring the final to the Mother City.
“Cape Town football supporters have been asking for an opportunity to watch a cup final in their backyard for some time now and we are excited to bring a major cup final to Cape Town Stadium,” she said.
“This is in line with the commitment made by the League to utilise the stadiums built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
“This is not just an opportunity to watch a football match, but a chance for fans to be part of an experience,” she added.
