Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka has revealed that he aims to get back into the Bafana Bafana squad, writes DEAN WORKMAN.
The former SuperSport United man has established himself as a key part of the Amakhosi team under Steve Komphela. His influence at Chiefs has come under the spotlight in recent weeks as the team struggled while he has been sidelined with an ankle injury. The midfielder has only made five appearances for Bafana and is looking to add to those caps going forward by continuing his good performances at Chiefs.
Maluleka revealed on Thursday, during a media day at the Kaizer Chiefs Village, that the latest Bafana camp came at the wrong time for him as he plans to force his way back into Stuart Baxter’s plans.
‘I was hopeful that I would be in the thick of things [named in Bafana squad]. Look I believe in myself, I believe in my abilities and if an opportunity presents itself, I will make sure that I will gun for it.’
Maluleka highlighted the timing of his injury and the squad announcement, ‘The timing was just all wrong and its one of those things.’
The midfielder also pointed out that he faces a lot of competition for a spot in the Bafana midfield, ‘Look we have a lot of quality players and I’m very close with them. From Sundowns, Pirates, everywhere they are doing very well. But its good for us its good and for the country its good to have competition.’
Kaizer Chiefs next take on Chippa United in the Absa Premiership on Saturday afternoon, with kickoff at 3pm.
