Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt will come up against old foe Pitso Mosimane in tonight’s Absa Premiership clash but Hunt has played down down any suggestions that their rivalry between the two coaches will influence the game.
The Clever Boys will take on the Brazilians in a game that could have serious ramifications on where the title ends up. Mosimane’s team hold a four-point gap on Orlando Pirates as they look to secure another PSL title and they will be looking to extend that gap against the defending Champions tonight.
Hunt, who has already highlighted Wits’s importance in the title run in, was quick to play down his rivalry with Mosimane when asked if that will give the game extra importance.
‘No, I don’t think about that,’ he said. ‘I’ve been in the game longer than him, so that doesn’t even come into my equation. I’ve got the utmost respect for what he has done, but I don’t think about me versus him, I don’t think like that.’
Wits face injury doubts heading into the game after their exploits in the Caf Confederations Cup. Hunt however is still optimistic about his side’s chances against the table toppers.
‘We’ll see who we can put out – that will be the biggest thing, as we have a few players out now, but the thinking will be we can’t just go there and contain, we need to go and play. We can’t play how we did at Ajax, we have to be a bit more positive, but we’ll try see what we can put out there.’
Bidvest Wits will travel to Loftus to take on Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday with kick-off is set for 6pm.
