Manchester United suffered a 1-0 home loss at the hands of West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford in their Premier League clash, a result which sees Manchester City crowned Champions, writes DEAN WORKMAN.
Jose Mourinho’s men came into the after a confidence boosting victory over Manchester City, while West Brom were looking to delay their inevitable relegation, all be it for a week.
The pattern of the game was clear from the onset, the Albion players were looking to sit deep, playing as a back six at times, conceding possession to United while trying to be difficult to break down.
The Red Devils thought they should have been awarded a penalty with eighteen minutes player. Romelu Lukaku’s cutback from the byline was gathered by Ander Herrera, the Spaniard was then brought down by Craig Dawson, but the referee waved away the claims.
A minute later Lukaku was slipped through on goal by Juan Mata and the striker forced Ben Foster to make a brilliant save to keep the scores level.
United were struggling to find any rhythm as their build up play lacked the tempo needed to break down a defensively disciplined West Brom side.
0-0 at half time at a frustrated Old Trafford with the home side putting in a dull performance.
Not much changed in the second half and Jose Mourinho turned to the bench brining on both Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial.
Darren Moore’s men then stunned the home crowd taking the lead on seventy-three minutes. A corner kick to the back-post saw Nemanja Matic header the ball back across his own box and Jay Rodriguez reacted quickest to header the ball past David de Gea. 1-0 to the side sitting rooted to the bottom of the Premier League.
United had all their attacking talents on the park but still could not find the opening. An abject performance by the Red Devils against a West Brom side who had won just one game since August 2017. Albion held on for all three points as Manchester City are crowned Premier League Champions.
