Bongani Zungu could be lost to Vitoria de Guimaraes as his list of suitors continues to grow, with Villarreal and Malaga reportedly keen on securing his services.
The 24-year-old midfielder initially endured a tough period in Europe, but after gradually finding his feet, the former Mamelodi Sundowns man has formed an integral part of Pedro Martins’ side, most recently netting in the 2-1 Taca de Portugal loss to Benfica.
Reports have been doing the rounds that the likes of Portuguese giants Porto and Sporting Lisbon may be wanting to sign Zungu, in addition to Bundesliga sides Hoffenheim and Mainz.
With the season having been concluded, Guimaraes look poised to lose the services of their prized midfielder, whose €3.5m (R52m) price tag has reportedly been matched by more than one of the above-mentioned clubs.
Guimaraes have offered the midfielder a new long-term contract, but with several clubs willing to match their €3.5m (R52m) valuation of him, he may be lost to them.
Benfica are believed to be front-runners for the signature of the Bafana Bafana international, however, Porto might also look to prioritise the signing of Zungu, if defensive-midfielder Danilo is to leave the club with Arsenal keen on his services.
The one factor that would help Zungu decide the fate of his future would be whether or not the interested team(s) are plying their trade in the Europa League.
Having sealed his spot in the Europa with Guimaraes, Zungu could be tempted to leave the club if a realistic offer from Portuguese champions Benfica presents itself, which comes with the promise of playing in the Champions League.
