Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana has revealed why winning the 2017-18 Absa Premiership title was so special.
The Bafana Bafana midfielder joined an illustrious list of players to have lifted the PSL title on five occasions, twice with SuperSport United (08/09 09/10) and three times with Masandawana (13/14, 15/16 and 17/18)
The veteran defensive-midfielder cited his side’s hectic schedule this season in revealing what made his fifth PSL winnrs medal so special.
“I think this one is very special,” he told goal.
“I wouldn’t say that every year when I win the league, I wouldn’t say this one is very special compared to the rest of the trophies that I have won.
“I should just say it is one of those special trophies that I can never compare because winning silverware is a special moment, because of the sacrifices.
“So, as a player I’m very happy with my achievements so far. I am always humbled by this feeling whenever we go on something, so it is one of the best moments of my life considering that I’m the person who’s going to lift the trophy (In the final game against Bloemfontein Celtic).
“I think this one was very difficult for us. I remember when I would compare it to the one of 2013.
“I think this one was very difficult because of the number of games that we played already, but look the league is so competitive now where you are never guaranteed to win a match,” he continued.
“So, we are now aware of the space we are in, because the team I think we have set the bar very high and now everybody wants to beat us.
“So, I think we should prepare well for next season because I see people coming to beat Mamelodi Sundowns,” he said.
