Bidvest Wits striker James Keene has confirmed that he will join Absa Premiership rivals SuperSport United on 1 July 2018.
The 32-year-old striker confirmed that he will leave the Clever Boys after their narrow 1-0 defeat to Platinum Stars in their final Absa Premiership game of the season.
Keene, who joined Wits from Swedish second tier side Halmstads BK in January 2016, played a crucial role in helping Wits secure their maiden league title during the 2016-17 campaign.
However, the former champions have been a shadow of their themselves during the 2017-18 campaign where they finishing 12th in the PSL standings.
Keene says he is looking forward to linking up with his new teammates at Matsatsantsa and focus on the season ahead.
“Yeah I am moving on from Wits, I am thankful for the years I spent there. It’s been good times for me and I am happy with what I achieved – the club treated me well but it’s football,” Keene told Goal.com.
“I will be joining SuperSport United from the 1st of July and I am looking forward to it.
“I know they had a tough season, they played in Caf and that has affected them with lots of games but they had a small squad.
“I still believe they have a great team capable of competing and I am sure a new coach will come in and stabilise the team to challenge for trophies.
“For me it is a new start and for the team because we have to focus on the new season, but I have to thank Wits, they have been great for me, they have been been awesome,” he concluded.
Keene has managed to scoring a total 17 goals and assisting a further one from 48 appearances in all competitions during his stint at Wits.
