Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Johannes Kholoane believes Siphiwe Tshabalala deserved to be named Player of the Season, following his contributions during Amakhosi’s second consecutive trophyless season.
The 32-year-old was the big winner at Amakhosi’s awards ceremony as he walked away with the Player of the Season, Fans Player of the Year, Top Scorer, Goal of the Year and Player of the Month for April.
Despite the Glamour Boys trophyless campaign, Kholoane believes that Tshabalala has been the standout performer for his side after netting eight goals and assisting a further three from 29 appearances in all competitions.
“He made a difference whenever he played, stamping his authority,” Kholoane told the Kaizer Chiefs website.
“Shabba knows that soccer is a game of risks, and that’s why he takes chances, like his two recent marvellous goals against Cape Town City and SuperSport United.
“Before the Awards evening started, I spoke with a few other legends and most predicted that Shabba would win that award.
“For me, Shabba was actually Amakhosi’s most improved player, especially compared to the previous season, which was a difficult year for him.”
Meanwhile, Kholoane says he was equally pleased with Ramahlwe Mphahlele being awarded the Players’ Player of the Season award.
“He’s a workaholic. He has so much energy, going up and down the flank for 90 minutes, delivering telling crosses into the opponent’s box. Rama always makes a difference when he plays,” he added.
