Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter says he is still awaiting the arrival of three players to camp ahead of his side’s Africa Cup of Nations tie against Nigeria on Saturday.
The SuperSport United mentor revealed that Bidvest Wits defender Thulani Hlatswayo will lead the team in the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier against Nigeria on Saturday, and gave an update on the players who are currently in camp.
“Most of the squad have reported for camp, while the SuperSport United players are still on their way back from their CAF commitments,” he told reporters.
“Dean Furman and Ronwen Williams will be here soon, while Bongani Zungu had a problem with his flight, but he’s currently on his way as well,” he added.
The South African team doctor, Thulani Ngwenya, revealed that there are seven players who are nursing injuries and will need to be monitored closely ahead of the encounter against The Super Eagles.
“Lebogang Mnayama has a right knee injury, which is actually one he has been carrying for a some time while receiving treatment, and we will continue to monitor and treat him.
“Andile Jali picked up an injury to his right-side groin muscle during his club side’s last game, and because he had to fly in for camp, he hasn’t received any treatment. We will begin treatment and expect some improvement.
“Tokelo Rantie also got injured in his last game with his club, he has a bone contusion on his right-side big toe, which we will be treating. But he is also carrying an injury to his right knee, which requires a scan.
“Tiyani Mabunda was out for three weeks with a sprained ankle and has been recovering. We will continue with treatment, but he will be fine.
“Aubrey Ngoma has a groin injury for which he has been receiving treatment at his club and we will continue to monitor him.
“Rivaldo Coetzee picked up a hamstring injury at his club and has been recovering. We’ve picked up that he is not 100 percent and has some restrictions, but he will undergo a scan and treatment.
“Lastly, Erick Mathoho suffered a concussion during training at his club, but he has shown improvement. We will monitor his progress,” he added.
