The Citizens are set to face Amakhosi in the inaugural Mpumalanga Cultural Xperience Cup at the Mbombela Stadium as they continue their preparations for the 2018-19 campaign.
This will be both City and Chiefs’ final pre-season friendly before the Absa Premiership kicks off next Saturday.
McCarthy says the Mpumalanga Cultural Xperience Cup will give him the opportunity to field his new signings to determine their readiness ahead of the new season.
‘It will be interesting playing Chiefs, because it is the last friendly before [the season starts], so no more test driving,’ McCarthy told the media.
‘So we want to go with a full-strength squad, who more-or-less you would think will be the side to start our first league match against SuperSport United.
‘Hopefully, I’ll be given that opportunity and – touch wood – we don’t get injuries up until the final moments, but I want to go with a side that’s 99% almost guaranteed to be the side for the first league match.’
