Cape Town City star Taariq Fielies has established himself as a no-nonsense defender, but admits that former Mamelodi Sundowns duo Khama Billiat and Percy Tau rank as the toughest opponents he’s faced in the PSL.
The centre back enjoyed a memorable debut season for the Citizens, punching above his weight in his breakthrough campaign with the club. Not only did he manage 34 appearances across all competitions, but the lanky defender also made his national team debut, forming part of the Bafana Bafana side that did duty in the 2018 Cosafa Cup.

TFG SoccerClub caught up with ‘Tarra’ and quizzed him about which forwards proved particularly tough to handle in the PSL and who is the most skilful player in Benni McCarthy’s team.
‘We are all professionals and we all have a job to do,’ he said.
‘Every striker has their own strengths and so do other players on the field, but I have to give the former Sundowns duo their due – it was definitely Khama Billiat and Percy Tau,’ he added.

In a squad that boasts a number of tricky players – Edmilson Dove, Gift Links, Teko Modise and Riyaad Norodien to mention a few – Fielies says there is one player who stands out head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to skill.
‘It has to be Surprise Ralani, he’s a very special player with amazing skills,’ he concluded.
The Citizens will do duty against Masandawana in the MTN8 semi-finals, with the first-leg clash set for 25 August at the Cape Town Stadium with kick-off at 3pm.
