Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic believes his side played with the ‘desire to break the jinx’ against SuperSport United.
Goals from Vincent Pule, Thembinkosi Lorch and Ben Motshwari saw the Buccaneers claim a 3-1 win over Matsatsantsa at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening.
The Buccaneers have been struggling to beat Matsatsantsa at home for years and the Pirates coach says his players wanted to turn the tables.
Matsatsantsa have been the Buccaneers bogey team over the years, but the Serbian coach was pleased to see his side claim maximum points against coach Kaitano Tembo’s men.
‘We played with a good competitive team with a desire to break the jinx, after a long time we are beating SuperSport United here at home,’ Sredojevic told SuperSport TV after the game.
‘If you look at that we need to be happy, but in the same moment we need to be critical that we have allowed the opponent to come back instead of killing the game. However, we had the answer with Lorch and Shonga coming in I believe it was a decisive factor in the game.
‘We always write the document we play, today we put the signature defensively and put the stamp scTembwise so the document is fully valid and the three points are there.’
Sredojevic says he was pleased to see his decision to bring on Thembinkosi Lorch and Justin Shonga pay off leading up to their victory.
‘We had played with three behind [in defence] then we put [Thabane]Thopola inside because the opponent had four attackers. We needed to minumise that threat.
‘However, immediately thereafter we conceded a goal. We put two players [extra] upfront [Thembinkosi Lorch and Justin Shonga] to go for all or nothing and we out-scored the opponent and won this game,’ he concluded.
