Thulani Hlatshwayo, Lebo Mothiba, Percy Tau, Dino Ndlovu and Teboho Mokoena all got onto the scoresheet as Bafana Bafana thumped Seychelles in an AFCON qualifying tie, writes MARSHALL GOUTS.
The home side went into the clash needing victory after playing to a goalless draw against Libya in their previous qualifier last month.
Itumeleng Khune: 7/10
One of the most quietest games that the Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper ever had in the Bafaa colours as Seychelles hardly threatened. Made his first save of the game in the 65th minute to give you an indication of the domination from the home side.
Ramahlwe Mphahlele: 8/10
Influential in attack providing Mothiba/Tau with a number of telling crosses.
Sifiso Hlanti: 7/10
Thrived in attacking areas, also providing a few quality crosses. Wasn’t needed in defence.
Buhle Mkhwanazi:8/10
Forged a formidable partenership with Bidvest Wits teammate Tyson in the heart of defence. Excellent positioning.
Thulani Hlatshwayo: 9/10
Marshaled the defence superbly in terms of positioning as Seychelles sat deeper. Was integral in the opener, heading the ball back forcing the Seychelles defender to turn the ball into his own net.
Aubrey Modiba: 7/10
Looked lively in the midfield with his pace and trickery, but lacked desired effect in the final third. Provided a beauty of a ball into the area for Hlatshwayo’s goal. Made way for Dino Ndlovu in the second-half.
Dean Furman: 8/10
World-class performance from the SuperSport United midfielder on all fronts. Kept the ball moving in the midfield and forged a indestructible combination with Mokotjo. His leadership qualities never go unnoticed.
Lebohang Maboe: 7/10
Made good use of his starting berth displaying his skill and ability to unlock defences. Still has learning to do, but the clash will have done a lot for his confidence in the Bafana colours.
Kamohelo Mokotjo: 8/10
Didn’t have too much to do in the way of defending, which allowed him to boast his exquisite passing ability.
Percy Tau: 7/10
Formed an excellent partnership with Motiba in attack with the duos movement often perplexing the Seychelles defence. Proved wasteful in front of goal, missing more than three clear cut opportunities. Was unfortunate to see his well-struck freekick canon off the cross bar in the first half. Finally broke the deadlock with a well-taken goal after a great touch by Mothiba.
Lebo Mothiba 9/10:
World-class turn and execution to net Bafana’s third goal. Displayed his quality throughout the clash, making himself a nuisance to the Seychelles defence with his strength and off-the-ball movement.
Substitutes:
Dino Ndlovu 7/10:
Replaced Modiba and came onto good effect as he added the fifth goal which will go a long way for his confidence.
Teboho Mokoena 7/10:
Replaced club captain Furman with a few minutes to spare in the game and netted his first ever Bafana goal with a well-taken header.
Lebo Phiri: N/A
Too little time for a rating.
