The Gauteng Futsal Association held their first round of trials over the weekend as the associations across the country begin preparations for the C13 and Over C18 AMF Futsal World Cups to be held next year.
The first round of Gauteng trials on Saturday attracted a great turnout, with players ranging from 10 years old up to the men’s category.
One of the main goals of the trials was to begin the preparations for the C13 World Cup, which will be held in Barcelona in November 2019.
At the trials, players were first categorised and then shortlisted, with a select group of players now set to attend a second round of trials where they will play in a series of friendly matches.
Players will then be filtered into teams who will compete in various leagues across the province. The players will then look to impress in order to stake their places in the Gauteng Provincial Futsal side. This provincial side will compete in a national selection tournament in June 2019, with a spot in the C13 World Cup squad at stake.
A number of players who attended the trials in Gauteng are eligible for the over 18’s AMF Futsal World Cup, which will be held in Argentina in April 2019.
As with the younger age group, there will be a second round of trials where final selections for the men’s teams across the province will be concluded after a series of friendly matches. Invitation teams will also attend the friendly games, as the association aims to shortlist the best of the best by December 2018.
After the series of friendlies, a refined list of players will be invited to attend the provincial tournament in Gauteng in January 2019, where the final selections for the men’s category will be concluded.
Trials will also be held across the country where players will begin their journeys to the national squads in order to represent South Africa at the Futsal World Cups next year.
