Percy Tau says that Bafana Bafana’s 1-1 draw against Paraguay proved a learning curve for many of the players, in addition to asserting that they will book their spot at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns and current Brighton & Hove Albion loanee netted a last-gasp equaliser to ensure that South Africa share the spoils with their South American counterparts.
Tau, who was awarded the man of the match accolade for his performance, admits that the clash was by no means an easy one, claiming that coach Stuart Baxter primarily used the contest to try different tactics in preparation for the final Afcon qualifier against libya.
‘It was a difficult game, we conceded early, but got back strong. We were trying to get the tactics right and the movement. And we got the last goal in the last minute, which is good,’ he said in post-match comments.
‘We didn’t know much about them, but they were very physical and moving the ball fast, which is a good preparation for Libya. But then we gave everything and got a draw.
‘It’s good that we have youngsters in the team. So they will always help us with energy and it’s also a good experience for them,’ Tau said about the youngsters being blooded in the team.
‘I think we’ll go to Afcon, we just need to keep the momentum going for next year,’ he concluded.
