Maritzburg United chairman Farook Kadodia has confirmed that Fadlu David has been appointed as the club’s new head coach.
The 36-year-old took over as interim coach on two occasions during the 2016-17 campaign after both Ernst Middendorp and Roger De Sa parted ways with the club.
Davids impressed during his spell in charge of the Team of Choice when he guided them to six wins and six draws during his 14 games in charge of Maritzburg.
The club’s chairman says he is pleased with David’s appointment after the former assistant coach impressed during his spell as interim coach.
“Three seasons ago we achieved our 1st Top eight finish but unfortunately didn’t not build on that in the following season,” Kadodia saidat a press-conference.
“After surviving in the most miraculous manner from relegation we were determined to go back and target a Top 8 finish this past season.
“We assembled a strong squad to compete in the 2016-17 Season but non the less had the disruptions of 2 Coaches resigning during the season.
“During this period the club had turned twice in the season to Assistant Coach Fadlu David’s as the interim coach.
“It was during this period that we saw fully the abilities of Fadlu David’s as a head coach.
“A club legend, club captain and now it gives me the pleasure to announce Fadlu David’s as the club’s new head coach.”
Meanwhile, David says he is honoured to have taken over the rein at Maritzburg and says he is relishing the chance to hit the ground running.
“It’s an honour and privilege to be given this opportunity. It’s been five and a half years since I retired and started my coaching journey,” Davids said.
“I’ve had the privilege of being mentored by Ernst Middendorp and believe that I am now ready for this Challenge.
“We have a dynamic squad and this was seen in the youngsters that played in the 1st team in the last six months,” he concluded.
