Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic felt his side could have scored more than five goals against Light Stars in their Caf Champions League clash on Wednesday.
The Buccaneers made their ling-awaited return to the Champions League in style after claiming a comfortable 5-1 victory over the side from Seychelles.
The likes of Thabo Qalinge, Augustine Mulenga, Mpho Makola, Justin Shonga and Linda Mntambo got their names on the scoresheet at the Orlando Stadium to take a comfortable lead heading into the second leg.
Sredojevic was full of praise for Thembinkosi Lorch and Justin Shonga, who made an instant impact not long after coming on in the second half, labelling them as ‘firefighters’.
‘We created some chances and missing. Later on, we (substituted) two players [Meshack] Maphangule and Kuda Mahachi and we put in Lorch and Shonga as firefighters, we call it so because 3-1 is not enough. They came in with Shonga scoring and Lorch impacting the game in his way, provided that we scored that fifth goal that in a way to satisfy something that we wanted. We didn’t want to concede, this is negative (and) we need to be critical,’ Sredojevic told the media.
The Pirates mentor wanted his side to score more than five goals in the first leg in order to take a comfortable lead heading into the second leg on 5 December.
‘We wanted to score more than five. The most important thing that we need to be satisfied with is the fact that, I want to call it for the times that are ahead of us, we have widened up the pool of players that are competing for certain places for the matches ahead of us,’ he added.
