Cape Town City came back from 2-0 down to beat Bloefontein Celtic 3-2 in their Absa Premiership encounter at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday evening.

Benni McCarthy’s team were looking to finish the year off on the front foot by re-entering the top eight and would have been targeting nothing else but the three points before kick-off.

Steve Komphela’s side on the other hand picked up just one point in their last four games and would have been desperate to stop the rot. Celtic started the season in fine form, but a run of poor results has seen them slip down the table.

The men from Bloemfontein got off to the perfect start when Nduumiso Mabena fired them ahead with just five minutes on the clock.

City were on the back foot and their hopes of a positive result took a further blow when Celtic doubled their lead thirteen minutes later. This time it was Kamagelo Mashikinya who got his name on the score sheet for the visitors.

McCarthy’s men then started to find their feet as they looked to find a way back into the game but failed to make take advantage of any openings in the remainder of the half.

A reinvigorated home side reappeared after the break and after flooding forward City eventually pulled on back through Siphelele Mthembu on the 59th minute mark.

The game opened up from this point with the action flowing from end to end. City were the ones who benefited from this as Bradley Ralani equalised for the home side with 73 minutes gone.

Ralani then completed the dramatic turnaround for his side just three minutes later with a finish from close range.

3-2 the final score at the as McCarthy’s side wrapped up the year in an entertaining fashion, while Komphela’s team are now on a four match losing streak.
