Highlands Park star Mothobi Mvala dreams of playing for one of the Absa Premiership’s ‘big teams’ but will only leave with the consent of his club.
The 24-year-old has played a crucial role in Owen Da Gama’s side this season and is the league’s current top goal scorer with seven goals from 17 appearances in the PSL.
However, his red hot for this campaign has put him on the radar of many clubs in the top-flight, with da Gama recently stating that the Lions of the North reportedly turned down a R10-million bid for the Theunissen-born midfielder.
Mvala says he is loyal and solely focused on doing well at the club, and will only make a move elsewhere if the club agrees to let him go, but for now he is contracted to Highlands.
‘It shows that I’m playing well and it gives me confidence to do more work but there is nothing more I can do because I’m still contracted to Highlands Park,’ Mvala told the media.
‘If the club is not willing to let me go there is nothing I can do, so my focus is on Highlands Park at the moment.
‘It all depends on the club because I’m contracted to them. If they say Mothobi I can go, I will definitely go. If they say stay there is nothing I can do because I’m still contracted to them and I have to honour my contract.’
Mvala insists that he next step after Highlands is to land a deal with one of the top clubs in the PSL and if nothing materialises, he’ll remain at the club.
‘It will be a good move for me if I can join one of the big teams. It is a dream of every player to play for one of the big teams,’ he added.
‘But if it doesn’t happen there is nothing I can do.’
Highlands Park will now welcome Bidvest Wits to the Makhulong Stadium when the two side’s meet in the Absa Premiership on Saturday with kick off set for 3:30pm.
