Orlando Pirates defender Patrick Phungwayo has reportedly appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s court, facing three serious charges against him.
The 29-year-old, who has been handed 16 appearances by Swedish coach Kjell Jonevret, is currently facing a charge of attempted murder, assault and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
It is reported that Phungwayo and his brother were involved in an altercation with an unidentified man at a party in Spruitview in Johannesburg during the long weekend, according to the media.
The unidentified man was allegedly assaulted and he was shot, with the bullet hitting him on his finger.
The Pirates’ left-back and his brother were arrested on Monday, but police failed to find the firearm that was allegedly used during the altercation.
On Tuesday, the magistrate granted the brothers bail of R2 000 each.
The matter was postponed to June 23 for further investigations.
