PUMA has released a link to the Insta LIVE interview hosted by Thierry Henry and featuring Mario Balotelli and Kevin Prince Boateng on 23 April 2020.
Mario Balotelli highlights:
Asked about his favourite country to play football, the well-travelled Balotelli said England … for the football but not for the weather, the driving or the food!
He says playing in the French league is better and more difficult than people think, especially physically. “Normally I am one of the biggest on the pitch but in France I was so normal.”
He lists his favourite coaches as Roberto Mancini – “He took me when I was young and crazy” – and current Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre – “He improved me a lot” – during their time together at Nice.
Balotelli also talks about playing on instinct versus developing the tactical side of the game.
He then picks his dream 11:
GK Julio Cesar
RB Maicon
LB Maxwell
CB Canavaro
CB Nesta
CM Pirlo
LM Yaya Toure
RM Gerard
AM Cassano
ST Ronaldo (Brazil)
ST Messi
Kevin Prince Boateng highlights:
He talks about his moonwalking dance after winning the title in Italy with AC Milanhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5i8OyC2GTg
Being happy in Spain playing for Las Palmas – “I just wanted to play football and enjoy the game. It had become work.”
The most talented players he was played with: “Mario Balotelli has the biggest potential I’ve ever seen. Best I played with are Messi, Ibrahimovic and Pirlo.”
The tricky decision to play for Ghana or Germany: “As someone who is mixed race, you don’t really know who you are. We have questions. I didn’t feel German 100% or Ghanain 100%.”
He would proudly have played for Germany but as he got older he realised his outspoken character wasn’t a good fit.
Choosing to play for Ghana was one of the best decisions of his career. “To see your roots … experience a different culture … play two World Cups.”
He and Henry also discuss Patrick Viera and the big and positive influence of street football on French football.
