Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane was happy with his team’s ability to bounce back and secure a 3-2 victory over Al Merrikh SC in their Caf Champions League group-stage encounter this past weekend.
The Red Eagles returned to winning ways in the Champions League following their defeat by Mamelodi Sundowns in their last game as a brace from Mohamed Sherif and a goal from Amr El Soulia handed Ahly their first win in the group stages.
The win moved Ahly up to second place in Group A, level on four points with third-placed Al Merrikh and three behind Sundowns, who currently lead the group with seven points from three matches.
Mosimane is now focusing on Sundowns for their next game, confident his side can redeem themselves and exact revenge on his former employers to as they look to collect more points in the group.
In his post-match interview, Mosimane reflected on the game and talked about the team’s upcoming match in the Caf Champions League against Mamelodi Sundowns.
“I’ve never seen my team so good in the first 10 minutes of a game like today. Al Merrikh wasn’t afraid to attack us despite conceding a goal very early in the game. We had several chances to score but we made the wrong pass in the end.
“It was not an easy game. Al Merrikh played well against Sundowns. Thank God, we were able to score three goals and win the three points.
“In our previous game, we scored four goals despite not having a lot of chances against Pharco.
“Of course, it will be very difficult to play against Mamelodi Sundowns; however, we are Al Ahly also and we are not afraid.”
