Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Lincoln Vyver is well aware that Mozambique will be highly motivated to exact revenge on South Africa when the two sides meet in the quarter-finals of the Cosafa Cup on Wednesday.
The Cape Town Spurs goalkeeper formed part of last year’s Cosafa Cup squad but managed to earn only one Bafana cap in six matches after keeping a clean sheet in their goalless draw with Zambia.
South Africa will welcome Mozambique to the Princess Magogo Stadium for their square-off in the opening round of this year’s edition of the Cosafa Cup.
The 21-year-old has now reflected on on what he learned from Goalkeeper of the Tournament Veli Mothwa last year.
“My first and only game that I got to play in the tournament was against Zambia,” Vyver told Safa.
“I was deputising for Mothwa who performed extremely well for the nation there. Having worked with him and been part of that Bafana Bafana squad before, my ambition is to now help the team defend this Cosafa title. It is not going to be easy but we’ll fight to the very end until that objective is achieved.
“Mozambique is a side we beat in the knockout rounds of last year’s final and we are well aware they will come out motivated to avenge that result in this year’s edition.
“We have been working extremely hard in training to ensure that doesn’t happen and the beauty about it is we share the same mindset. And that is we want to defend this title and make our nation proud.”
