Liverpool take on Chelsea this Saturday at Anfield with both Jurgen Klopp and Graham Potter’s sides struggling in midtable.
The last time both sides met in the Premier League, it was a fixture to remember, with Croatian Mateo Kovacic scoring a wonder volley from outside the box as Chelsea came back from two goals behind in an exciting 2-2 draw.
The last time Chelsea were victorious at Anfield was in 2021, when academy graduate Mason Mount scored the only goal in their 1-0 victory over The Reds.
Both sides have been active in the January transfer window, with Todd Boehly continuing the Blues’ summer spending spree by bringing in five new signings: Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos, and most notably, attackers Joao Felix and Mykhailo Mudryk. Liverpool have added one of the World Cup standout performers in Cody Gakpo to their frontline.
Liverpool and Chelsea are sitting in ninth and tenth place respectively, ten points off a UEFA Champions League place, and will need a run of victories to get their fight for European football back on track.
Failure to qualify for European competition could see both clubs miss out on top Summer target Jude Bellingham later this year as the youngster is being chased by the biggest clubs in world football.
Will Klopp’s Reds take back their season with a much needed victory at home? Or will Potter’s Blues take three points from the crumbling Anfield fortress?
