The Serie A has struggled to compete with the financial riches of the Premier League for years, with the giant Italian clubs like Juventus and Inter Milan fighting to balance the books.

In the January 2023 transfer window, the entire Serie A spent 33 million Euros. In that same window Premier League clubs spent 815 million pounds, with bottom of the table Southampton alone spending 60 million pounds, more than double the entirety of the Italian league.
