Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt suggested that Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy will have to be in charge of a lot more games to stand the test of time.
McCarthy’s side made four wins from four games after defeating reigning MTN8 champions Wits in the first-leg of their semi-final clash in Cape Town on Sunday.
Speaking in post-match comments, Hunt mentioned his former player’s impeccable start to his coaching career in the PSL, but said that he would be truly tested after 1000 + games.
“Well, football’s easy for him at the moment, isn’t it?,” he said after the loss to City.
“He must say, ‘what’s all the fuss about?’. Wait until he’s done 1000 games like I’ve done, or maybe 1200 games like I’ve done, then we will see. Ask him the same question [then].
“He’s been great, he’s won every game, he looks the part, so all good and well.
“Three games or four games, wait until he’s done a 1000, then we will see,” Hunt said.
Wits will square off against City in the all important second-leg of the MTN 8 semi-final tie on September, 9th.
