Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Stanton Fredericks believes Lorenzo Gordinho “did exceptionally well” on his debut for the national team against Zambia on Tuesday.
Bafana Bafana suffered their first defeat under newly-appointed coach Stuart Baxter when they fell to a 2-1 loss against Zambia in an international friendly match on Tuesday.
Fredericks, who was capped 14 times for the national team, was quick to praise Gordinho on his debut performance for Bafana Bafana.
“Lorenzo did exceptionally well,” Fredericks told the Kaizer Chiefs website.
“Gordinho didn’t look nervous at all on his debut. He never put a foot wrong.
“If I would give him a mark, I give him seven out of ten, which is very good. Lorenzo can only grow from here. For me, he passed his first Bafana test with flying colours.”
The 39-year-old admits he was impressed by Baxter’s side’s showing against the Zambian’s and insists that he is looking forward to seeing positive things from the national team in the future.
“I was very impressed with the first half. The second half was less good. However, that often happens in friendlies when there are many changes, especially in the middle of the park,” he added.
“That’s when a team loses some momentum and that’s how Zambia got back into the game.
“But the match against Nigeria and Tuesday’s first half against Zambia were impressive. I am excited with how Bafana Bafana performed. We are on the right track and I am positive about the future.”
