Bafana Bafana defender Lorenzo Gordinho believes the South African national team will bounce back when they take on Botswana on Tuesday.
Stuart Baxter’s side fell to a 1-0 defeat against Tanzania in their quarter-final clash in the Cosafa Cup at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg on Sunday.
The 23-year-old says he is disappointed by their recent defeat and South Africa’s failure to advance to the semi-finals of the competition.
“It’s very disappointing because we wanted to proceed in the competition and go all the way to the final,” Gordinho told Safa.net.
“The guys are very disappointed because we gave our all and tried to give a very good impression to the coach and also win our game, but unfortunately, it was not like that, so we have to bounce back because we still have another game on Tuesday.”
However, Gordinho says he is hoping South Africa can bounce back and secure a positive result against Botswana when the two side’s meet at the Moruleng Stadium.
“It is good for us to get this experience and for the younger players to also experience some international games where there is competition because that’s where you will see growth,” he added
“If we had won, it would have been a better experience for them. So we have to learn from this and move on. What remains now is that everyone has to do their best against Botswana and it is important that we do what the coach wants and I am positive we will get a win.
“There’s a saying that goes ‘tomorrow is a new day’, so I am hoping we will get another opportunity against Botswana to rectify the wrongs and get a good result.
“We have to keep on moving, we can’t dwell on this result, and we have just to look ahead. I am looking at finishing the camp on a high.”
Bafana Bafana will next take on Botswana at the Moruleng Stadium on Tuesday, 4 July 2017.
Kick-off has been set for 17:00.
