Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune will captain Bafana Bafana for their crucial World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso, provided he passes his fitness test.
South Africa do duty against the Stallions at the FNB Stadium on Saturday and Stuart Baxter has handed Khune the captain’s duties after the withdrawals of Erick Mathoho and regular captain, Thulani Hlatshwayo due to suspension and injury respectively.
SAFA confirmed that Khune will lead the squad in the absence of Hlatshwayo, pending a shoulder assessment on the 30-year-old.
“Pending a shoulder injury assessment, Khune will captain the team against Burkina Faso,” SAFA said on their official website.
South Africa face Burkina Faso on Saturday with kickoff set for 15:00.
