Peter Shalulile is edging closer to breaking Collins Mbesuma’s record for the most goals in a single season. SASoccerMag looks back at every player who has breached the 20-goal mark in South African football.
Only a handful of footballers have achieved the rare feat of scoring 20 goals in a single Premier Soccer League season since the league’s inception back in 1996.
There are only five names on this sought-after list: Wilfred Mugeyi, Daniel Mudau, Pollen Ndlanya, Collins Mbesuma and Siyabonga Nomvethe.
However, the latest edition to the list is Peter Shalulile, who has already surpassed the 20-goal mark with 22 goals for Mamelodi Sundowns so far this season.
With three games left in the DStv Premiership season, the Namibia striker could be on course to break Mbesuma’s long-standing record for the most goals in a single campaign as he only needs three more to equal the record and four to set a new record.
