Emiliano Martinez’ heroics spared Argentina from a Copa America exit as he starred in penalty shootouts, to defeat Ecuador 4-2 and propel La Albiceleste to the last four.
Copa America reigning champions Argentina survived a scare against Ecuador as Kevin Rodriguez’s last-minute equaliser cancelled Lisandro Martinez’ 35 minute header to take the tie to penalties.
Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez saved Argentina from defeat after Lionel Messi’s panenka hit the crossbar. Martinez stopped two penalties kicks from Ecuador’s Angel Mena and Alan Minda, allowing La Albiceleste to advance to the Copa America semifinals.
