Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that midfielder George Maluleka is fit again, providing the Glamour Boys with a much-needed boost going into the business end of the season.
The former Supersport United man has been out of action for a month following an ankle injury and has missed some important clashes, including the 3-1 Soweto Derby loss to Orlando Pirates.
Known as ‘Mido’, the midfielder has become a key part of the Amakhosi team having made 17 appearances in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) this season. Despite his injury absence, he has still played more minutes this season in the PSL (1508) than all but five of his teammates.
Steve Komphela’s men are still challenging for the Nedbank Cup and have an outside shot at the league, although that is looking unlikely following another 0-0 draw in their last game out against AmaZulu, which has left them seven points off leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns.
David Milner, Chiefs’ first-team physiotherapist, gave an update on the midfielder’s fitness on the club’s official website.
Milner said, ‘Mido has recovered and is fit again… He is fully participating in training sessions. Of course, he’s not match-fit as yet, but it’s still a way to go before our Nedbank Cup quarterfinal, which will only be played in about ten days and he might be ready by then.”
Chiefs’ next task will be against Baroka in the Nedbank quarter-finals on 1 March, giving Maluleka the entirety of the international break to get back to match fitness.
