Kaizer Chiefs manager Bobby Motaung has admitted that there could be new arrivals in January after he assess the club’s options with coach Ernst Middendorp.

Chiefs made several signings before the start of the season with the likes of Lebogang Manyama, Mario Booysen, Godfrey Walusimbi and Khama Billiat arriving at Naturena.

They, however, have struggled so far this season and with Giovanni Solinas having come and gone and Ernst Middendorp now in charge it looks like the club may make additions to their squad.

Lorenzo Gordinho is set to return from a loan spell at Bloemfontein Celtic which will add some much-needed reinforcements in defence, an area which has let them down frequently this campaign, and Motaung has admitted that the club will assess their options with Middendorp before deciding on whether to ‘beef up’ their squad.

‘We will have a discussion with the coach and we will sit down and review. Players react differently. You can’t say you are offloading, maybe with the new coach we might not have to beef up because players react differently [when a new coach comes in]. So we will have to take it a step at a time.

‘Obviously the players have to come on board, but we will see at the end of the year what the challenges will be and see what the coach thinks of where we need to beef up. We know and we will recommend, and we will show where the challenges are. Like you say, ‘Rama’ [Ramahlwe Mphahlele] is injured but we have other players. Gordinho is coming back.

‘So there are areas where the coach might say we need one or two. We will give him time to work with the team. January is around the corner and there will be games in between, so we will assess.’
