Mamelodi Sundowns got back to winning ways with a 2 –0 win over Sekhukhune United In the DStv Premiership on Saturday afternoon.
The Brazilians were looking to bounce back from their back-to-back draws against Cape Town City and SuperSport United, but the coaching staff decided to remain unchanged for the encounter.
As expected, Downs started on the front foot with Neo Maema going close in the the 16th minute as his curling strike dipped just over the bar.
Maema, however, managed to grab the opener five minutes later as he unleashed a ferocious half-volley inside the box which flew into the top corner after a knockdown by Peter Shalulile.
The visitors looked to stage a fight back and while they showed some positive signs, they couldn’t trouble Denis Onyango.
The home side managed to double their lead in the 58th minute after they were awarded a penalty for handball, despite replays showing the ball struck the chest of the Sekhukhune defender. Themba Zwane, though stepped up to the spot and made no mistake.
Downs then managed to grab a stranglehold on the game and saw out their opponents to get back to winning ways in the league.
