Veteran AmaZulu striker Siyabonga Nomvethe has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 40.
The announcement of his retirement was confirmed by Usuthu on Friday at a press conference, although Nomvethe will still remain part of the squad until his contract expires in December.
Nomvethe, who turns 41 in December, started his playing career with African Wanderers back in 1997.
The veteran striker is one of few players who have played for Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates as well as Moroka Swallows.
The former Bafana Bafana forward also made a name for himself abroad while playing for Italian sides Udinese, Salernitana and Empoli.
He later moved to Swedish side Djurgarden but returned to South Africa for a short stint with the Buccaneers. After less than 20 appearances for the Sea Robbers, Nomvethe returned to Europe in a deal with Denmark’s AaB 68.

The leading PSL goal-scorer, with 121 goals, earned 81 caps for Bafana Bafana and scored 16 goals in his 21-year career.
‘It’s time for the youngsters to take over. Football is about playing with the heart,’ Nomvethe told the media.
‘I have played all over the world. Scored in the World Cup. Won awards, but for me, the most important thing was to keep playing and enjoying football.
‘I will be busy working on my foundation. For now, I can’t say too much but you will know soon what my future plans are.
‘I have done my part. I am very happy. It is time to say goodbye. Thank you to everyone who supported me along the way.’
