Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy has lavished praise on veteran midfielder Teko Modise, saying that he now plays a massive role in the team.
The Citizens put an end to their four-game match streak without a win when they garnered a 1-0 victory against Free State Stars at the Athlone Stadium in their most recent league clash.
The Bafana Bafana all-time top-scorer highlighted Modise” dominance against El La Koto, in addition to speaking about the improvement by Thamsanqa Mkhize, and the injury sustained by strike Victor Obinna.
“I was pleased to see Teko now taking a massive‚ commanding role … he was instrumental with his passing.
“Even if the pitch made us look average-ish because it was so bumpy‚ he was excellent in the way he controlled the game.
“Mkhize‚ who was named captain‚ I thought he was unbelievable. He controlled that right-back side very well.
“It’s a hamstring‚ it’s frustrating when you see someone work so hard and put in massive effort to be there. Then something silly where he sprinted off and felt it [the hamstring]‚ then felt it again later.
“He will have a scan and then we will assess the problem. I am hoping that it is just age and not anything serious,” he concluded.
City occupy third spot on the table and their next assignment sees them face top-of-the-table Baroka FC on November 22.
