Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has challenged their fellow title contenders catch up to them at the top of the Absa Premiership table following their win over Cape Town City.
The Brazilians managed to claimed all three points in their midweek league encounter after securing a 3-2 victory over the Citizens at Loftus Versfeld Stadium through goals from Lebohang Maboe, Anthony Laffor and Phakamani Mahlambi.
The win sees Sundowns moved to the top of the league standings with 39 points after 20 games, with their closes rivals Bidvest Wits a point behind them, having played one more game.
Mosimane’s side will now turn their attention to Bloemfontein Celtic when the two sides square off in the Absa Premiership on Saturday.
‘This is the first time we’re on top,’ Mosimane told his club’s official website.
‘If we apply our experience of being there, because we have been there before. Normally when we’re there, we don’t come back. I hope we continue with the same experience. We will see. Bloemfontein Celtic, I hope that they don’t disturb us. But the big one is the return leg in Cape Town against Cape Town City on Tuesday. They will never, ever, ever allow us to score three goals. It’s going to a tight one, it’s going to be like the Wits one. I hope that there are no red cards. You never know, maybe you nick it and go with it.
‘I told you that the point against Wits was a big point. We went FNB Stadium last season and I told you that that point we got from Kaizer Chiefs is a big point. We went to FNB Stadium this season, and that was a big win for us. You were surprised to see me running to the corner. It’s because I knew it was a big one. It wasn’t easy.’
